FRILSHAM (1995 to 2007) Dave and Helen Maggs started the West Berkshire Brewery in the late summer of 1995 by converting this dilapidated former brickworks building behind the Potkiln pub in Frilsham and transforming it within a matter of weeks into a smart, serviceable unit. Within just a few weeks Good Old Boy had gained a Best Beer in
Festival award at the Camra White Horse branch (Wantage) festival, and
has remained our best seller ever since. |
YATTENDON Over the first few years of brewing at Frilsham it became clear
that we needed to increase our brewing capacity. We dealt with this
initially by installing additional fermenters to bring our capacity
up to 25 barrels per week. This still meant high demand beers being
brewed several times a week and in small quantities – efficiency
was being compromised!. Yattendon Estates offered a site incorporating
outbuildings for a brewery and a cold store together with housing for
the brewer and a small shop. Perfect – and so in 2000 we took
on a second site in Yattendon. We brewed successfully on both plants
for several years until we realised that we needed to increase our brewing
capacity still further and in 2006 we installed new plant to enable
us to brew up to 80 barrels per week. |

| In April 2007 we brewed our final brew at the Potkiln site and we vacated the original Frilsham premises. We now brew entirely at Yattendon We conduct brewery tours on a regular basis for groups of 10 to 25 people – just contact the brewery for more information. |
