CASK ALES

MONTHLY SPECIAL for MAY.

WALE & ANES 4.2% ABV

Saddlers used to, and still do, play a big role in country crafts, in spite of the demise in the use of heavy horses for rural and urban trades such as farming, forestry, canals and brewing. There is still a demand for leather harnessing, although mostly to those riding or driving for leisure.

Harness making was important up to, and even after, World War 2. A comfortable collar was needed for the animal that pulled the plough, wagon, dray, narrow boat or barge. These were made of leather stuffed with straw, with a softer inner lining where the collar touched the body. The outer part was known as the Wale, and between the two grooves were they meet is the Hames although in the Home Counties it is often known as the Anes.

A pleasant hoppy aroma and flavour with a combination of Barley & Rye
malts to give sweeter malt flavours. Leather brown in colour.

… and coming in June … Grigwel (4.3%) …
